Winter Sonata is always very special in my heart because it’s the first time of my life that I become a fan of someone. So I would like to translate and to share on my blog an article I found on Quilt long time ago because even if it’s a funny writing, it's trully what I feel and I believe too.This writing was posted by bb on Quilt , I don’t know who is the author, (I guess it’s Fumi as it’s his style, maybe bb can enlighten me).
Why is that only Yongjoon can play the role of Minhyeon ?

Aujourd’hui je voudrais discuter sur le sujet pourquoi le rôle de Minhyeon ne peut être joué que par Bae Yong Joon.
*** Si c’est Lee Byung Hun qui jouait Minhyeon…
Tout le monde sait que Winter Sonata parle des fantaisies de l’amour, il y a comme une espèce de songe imaginaire dans toute la série.
Le physique de Byung Hun est simplement trop tere à terre, de telle manière que son apparence extérieur ne serait pas capable de démontrer un tel caractère rêveur.
Si Byung Hun était Minhyeon, dans la nuit du Nouvel An, n’importe dans quel état confus où il se trouvait, même s’il courrait parce qu’il était en retard pour son rendez-vous avec Yujin, il ferait toujours attention quand il traverserait la route.
J’imaginerai que normalement, il observerait les voitures, d’abord il regarderait à gauche, puis à droite, il marcherait sans risque sur le côté, ou peut-être il pourrait traverser la route en courant.
Cela veut dire, Minhyeon n'aurait pas eu du tout d’accident de la route.
Ainsi, l'histoire de Winter Sonata ne pourrait pas continuer…

Today I will discuss the issue of why the role of Minhyeon can only be played by Bae Yong Joon.
*** If Lee Byung Hun was to play Minhyeon…
Everybody knows that Winter Sonata is really a love fantasy; there is a dream-like element about the entire drama.
Byung Hun’s physical appearance is simply too earthy, too real-life, so much so that his outward appearance wouldn't be able to carry off the dreamy character well.
If Byung Hun were Minhyeon, on the night of the first snow [happiebb: I think this is a mistake, it should be New Year’s eve], no matter how confused his thoughts were, even if he was running very late for his date with Yujin, he would still be very careful when he was crossing the road.
I would imagine that realistically, he would be watching out for cars, first he would look to his left, the he would look to his right, he would walk safely to the other side, or perhaps he may run across the road.
That is to say, Minhyeon would not have met with a road accident at all.
So, the story of Winter Sonata would not be able to carry on…
*** Si c’est Jang Dong Gun qui jouait Minhyeon
Dong Gun a toujours été reconnu comme l’un des plus bels hommes en Corée.
Une des raisons pour lesquelles il a été estimé comme une beauté nationale dans la catégorie homme est parce qu’il n’a pas un look typiquement Coréen.
En fait, il serait extrêmement difficile de trouver un autre homme qui lui ressemble en Corée.
Ainsi, si c’est Dong Gun qui jouait Minhyeon, la série serait comme ceci :
Quand Minhyeon retournait en Corée depuis la France et rencontrait tout le monde pour la toute première fois :
Minhyeon : Bonjour tout le monde, c’est la première fois que nous nous rencontrons. Je suis Minhyeon.
Tout le monde : Ce n’est pas possible, vous devez être Jun Sang!
Minhyeon : Non, je suis Minhyeon. Qui ? Qui pourrait me ressembler ?
Tout le monde : Il est impossible de trouver une autre personne qui vous ressemble en Corée ! Vous devez être Jun Sang! N'êtes-vous pas mort ?
Minhyeon : Huh ? Je suis Jun Sang? Que se passe-t-il ?
Oh, heu… oh, c’est bon, je vais aller le demander à ma mère…
Ainsi, l'histoire de Winter Sonata s'arrêterait probablement au 10ème épisode…
Cela aurait été tout à fait triste.
*** If Jang Dong Gun was to play Minhyeon…
Dong Gun has long been recognised as one of the handsomest men in Korea.
One of the reasons why he has been prized as a national-grade beauty-man is because his good looks is not atypically Korean.
In fact, it would be extremely difficult to find another man who looks like him in Korea.
So, if Dong Gun were to play Minhyeon, the drama would go like this:
When Minhyeon returned to Korea from France and was meeting everybody for the very first time:
Minhyeon: Hello, everybody, this is the first time we’ve met. I’m Minhyeon.
Everybody: Can’t be, you must be Jun Sang!
Minhyeon: No, I’m Minhyeon. Who? Who could have looked like me?
Everybody: It’s impossible to find another person who looks like you in Korea!
You must be Jun Sang! Didn’t you die?
Minhyeon: Huh? I’m Jun Sang? What’s going on?
Oh, er… oh, that’s right, I should go and ask Mother…”
So, Winter Sonata’s story would probably stop at the 10th episode…
That would have been quite sad.
***Si c’est Ryu Si Won qui jouait Minhyeon
Si Won a une personnalité fondamentalement aimable et gentille.
Il appartient à la plus jeune génération d'une famille bien aisée, représentant la culture et la grâce.
Dans la vie, il est également une personne très polie et respectueuse, et il est également le type de personne qui obéirait à ses parents et aînés.
Ainsi, si c’est Si Won qui jouait Minhyeon, alors Winter Sonata…finirait au 9ème épisode.
Minhyeon : Yujin, je t'aime. Mais je dois prendre aussi en considération les sentiments de Sang Hyuk, alors je ne pourrai pas te laisser venir avec moi.
Je ne peux pas dire ou faire quelque chose comme ça. En outre, ma mère est aussi fortement contre notre relation. Yujin, désolé, mais je t’aime vraiment et je ne t’oublierai jamais de toute ma vie.

Ainsi, Winter Sonata n'aurait toujours pas pu tenir au delà du 10ème épisode.
Tout à fait aussi triste.
*** If Ryu Si Won was to play Minhyeon…
Si Won’s basic personality is kind and nice.
He’s the younger generation of a well-heeled family, representing culture and grace.
In real life, he is also a very polite and respectful person, and he is also the sort who would obey his parents and elders.
So, if Si Won were to play Minhyeon, then Winter Sonata would… end at the 9th episode.
Minhyeon: Yujin, I love you. But I have to consider Sang Hyuk’s feelings as well, so I will not let you come with me.
I cannot make myself say or do something like that. Besides, Mother is also strongly against our relationship. Yujin, sorry, but I really love you and I will never forget you for the rest of my life.

So, Winter Sonata still could not get past to the 10th episode.
Quite sad as well.
*** Si c’est Won Bin qui jouait Minhyeon
Won Bin, dans la vie, n'est pas quelqu'un qui peut boire beaucoup.
Mais dans Winter Sonata, il y avait quelques scènes où il faut boire, particulièrement de la bière.
Si c'était du whisky, alors nous pourrions toujours utiliser le jus de fruit ou quelque chose d’autre pour le remplacer ; mais si c'était de la bière, alors il n'aurait pas eu d’autre choix que de vraiment la boire..
Won Bin, s'il devait boire pendant le tournage, il sera tellement assomé qu'il y aurait beaucoup de NGs.
Cela contrarierait Choi Ji Woo et éventuellement encourait aussi la colère du directeur par la suite.
Tout le monde sera alors si contrarié qu'ils abandonneraient après 10 épisodes.
Ainsi, c'est toujours 10 épisodes… Tsk Tsk…
*** If Won Bin was to play Minhyeon…
Won Bin, in real life, is not someone who can drink.
But in the show Winter Sonata, there were quite a few drinking scenes, especially drinking beer.
If it were whisky, then we could always use fruit juice or something as a substitute; but if it were beer, then he would have no choice but to drink the real thing.
Won Bin, if he were to drink during shooting, he would be so knocked out that there would be a lot of NGs.

Sang Woo est un homme bien bâti bien musclé, plein de biceps et triceps.
Mais il ne pourrait toujours pas jouer Minhyeon.
L'histoire de Winter Sonata faisait ressortir l’engouement de Chai Lin pour Minhyeon.
Naturellement, le type d’homme que Chai Lin aimait est une sorte de prince charmant.
Si Sang Woo était Minhyeon, alors Chai Lin ne tomberait pas amoureux de Sang Woo en premier lieu.
Et plus tard, quand les deux se rencontreront en France dix ans après, Chai Lin ne serait toujours pas intéressée.
En outre, Sang Woo est un homme tellement robuste et en bonne santé, que même s’il devait avoir un accident, il ne perdrait probablement pas sa mémoire, ou il pourrait guérir très rapidement.
Ainsi, l’histoire serait probablement comme ceci :
La mère de Jun Sang : Jun Sang pourra perdre sa mémoire due à l'accident.
Alors nous pourrons profiter de cette chance pour lui donner une nouvelle mémoire.
[Elle parlait avec le docteur pendant qu'ils étaient en chemin vers l'hôpital.
Elle a eu le choc de sa vie quand elle ouvrait la porte et voyait Jun Sang.]
Jun Sang : Mère ? Je vais bien, je ne suis pas blessé du tout. J'irai à l'école demain à nouveau.
La mère de Jun Sang : Mais… Mais tu viens juste d’avoir un sérieux accident !
Tu es déjà bien guéri ? Tu n’as pas perdu ta mémoire ?
Jun Sang : Mère, je suis un Monchian !
[mot coréen ; qui signifie « homme musclé »]
Dans de telles circonstances, Winter Sonata aurait fini au 14ème épisode.
Très, très triste si c'était le cas.
*** If Kwon Sang Woo was to play Minhyeon…
Sang Woo is a serious hunk with serious muscles, complete with biceps and triceps.
But he still would not be able to play Minhyeon.
The Winter Sonata story was brought out by Chai Lin’s infatuation with Minhyeon.
Naturally, the type that Chai Lin liked was the princely handsome sort.
If Sang Woo were Minhyeon, then Chai Lin would not fall in love with Jun Sang in the first place.

Under such circumstances, Winter Sonata would have ended at the 14th episode.
Very, very sad if that were the case.
Ainsi… Ma conclusion est qu’il n’y a aucun autre choix pour jouer si parfaitement le rôle de Minhyeon,
Cela doit être Yong Joon !

actually that analyzing yonsama series is really good. i personally feel that series was and still is fumi's best. so far anyway :)

p.p.s. bloody long series, i might add... must have spent months on that one... but i enjoyed reading the chinese trans that truelove77 did, so thought the decent thing to do is to share with more people... :p
