About Vesoul International Film Festival
Une fois n'est pas coutume, aujourd'hui je vais écrire un article sur le festival des cinémas d'Asie de Vesoul en Anglais suite à la demande d'une Bae sister .Everyone knows that April snow was chosen as the opening film at the 12th Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema in France so I would like to write some informations in English about this festival to share with my Bae sis.
Where is Vesoul ?
Vesoul is a city of 19 000 inhabitants, at 381 km south-east of Paris, in Haute-Saône, Franche-comté region.
The 12th edition of Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian will be held from 31th January till 7th February 2006. This is the oldest film festival in Europe entirely dedicated to Asian cinema.
April Snow features in the out of competition section and will be shown on Tuesday 31th January at 20h30.
The main awards are Cyclo d’or (Gold Cyclo) and Grand Prix du Jury. There are some others awards like Prix du jury Netpac, Prix Emile Guimet, Prix Langues’O, Prix du public and Prix Jury Jeunes.

- China : Un père à Pékin of An Zhanjun – French première
- India : Nisshabd, Toucher le silence of Jahar Kanungo - French première
- Indonésia : Joni's promise of Joko Anwar – European première
- Iran : Gilaneh of Rakhshan Bani-Etemad - French première
- Iran : Full or empty of Abolfazl Jalili
- Kazakhstan : L'express des steppes of Amanzhol Aituarov – International première
- Ouzbekistan : Le gardien of Yousoup Razykov - French première
- Turquie : Yolda of'Erden Kiral

- China : Wuji, la légende des cavaliers du vent of Chen Kaige - première
- Korea : L'Arc of Kim Ki-duk
- Korea : April snow of Hur Jin-ho - French première - ***OPENING***

- France : Vesoul, une passion asiatique of Christophe Monterlos
This year, the festival will introduce :
Faithful to Korea : 2006 is the year celebrating the 120th anniversary of the diplomatic relationships between France and Korea. This event will be celebrated through cinema in Vesoul where the Opening ceremony will introduce April Snow by Hur Jin-Ho, a French première. The film will be introduced by International Jury member Jeon Soo-Il, the promising French-speaking Korean director.
Faithful to Chinese world : a Tribute of 13 films will be given to dir. Hou Hsiao Hsien who will attend the festival. A Gold Cyclo Award will be presented to the great master of Taiwanese cinema for his contribution to cinema.
Beside, there are also Faithful to India, focus on Uzbek cinema, focus on women directors, Youth audience, …by showing the movies in each category.
I would like to add that there is another International Film Festival of Asian Movie in Deauville - France which will be held from 8th till 12th March 2006.
Untold scandal was the closing movie of this festival in 2004.

you're so wonderful!! Thanks so, so much for doing this! I'm always so curious about the smaller details. Happy to hear about the long history of this festival - looks like a bit of prestige to be opening the festival, right? Really makes me glad. It hope AS draws a lot of attention and appreciation in Europe because of this. Hmmmmm...wonder if Dir Hur will show up???

I don't think Dir Hur will show up in the festival because I remember reading somewhere he will go to Japan, and I don't see his name on the list of the festival's visitors.
