My trip to Korea (suite) : Ganghwa island
After coming back to Seoul from Jeju island, we went for a one-day trip to visit Ganghwa island.Ganghwa island is the fifth largest island in South Korea. It’s in the west coast and is separated from North Korea by the main channel of the Han River. It took about one hour ride by car from Seoul.
Firstly we stopped by the History Hall which consists of 4 rooms displaying Ganghwa history from the Bronze Age to Modern times :
- 1rst room : Foundation of Korea
- 2nd room : Ganghwa Culture
- 3rd room : Wars in Ganghwa
- 4th room : Wars in modern time
One of the battles of Ganhwa island with foreigners is with French troops.
This is the battle at Jeongjoksangseong in 1866 and French troops lost to Korean.

And this is general Yang Heon-Su who has won this battle against French troops.

Beautiful view from History Hall

After the History Hall, we went to Goryogungji Palace site but due to several foreign attacks, this site was devastated so nothing much left to see.

I never thought I could see dolmen in Korea but this is the Gangwha Dolmen. There are about 150 dolmen in Ganghwa and 70 are registered as World Heritage

Gwangseongbo Fortress

Look at this view, who could imagine that there are some fierce battles here

Ganghwa island is especially known as a great place for growing 6-year old ginseng. We have ginseng chicken for lunch and it’s the best I have ever eaten till now. The first time when I went to Korea, Youngsun took me to a ginseng chicken restaurant in MyeongDong but it can’t be compared to the one I ate at Ganghwa. I strongly recommend it to you if you visit this island one day.

Before going back to Seoul, we went to Jeondeungsa Temple.

This place is so quiet, so beautiful, it made me feel like we’re out of time.

cute !

Do you see these lanterns ?

To pray for their wish becomes true, people wrote their name, their address and their wish on the paper and hang on the lantern

wonder how many wishes're granted !
Me didn’t write anything, just wish silently in my heart to be able to come to this beautiful country again !

Me also joongboer. Nice to meet you.
Hi hi Jenny
Thanks for dropping by my blog again.
Yes, Jeondeungsa Temple is a very quiet place, such a contrast with Seoul.
Ah, how I wish to find a ginseng chicken here in Paris as good as the one I ate in Ganghwa island.
It makes me wanna go to Korea again, and how about you ? Are you still planning to go there next year ?
Hi Izat, welcome to my blog.
Thanks for dropping by, I'm very glad to meet another Joongboer here.
I'm so addicted to WGM that I watched and rewatched it instead watching others dramas.
To the World !!!
Hi Camille,
Sorry I'm a little late in reading your blog. I was offline for a few days.
Once again, thank you for documenting this visit, as we all hope it will guide our footsteps some time soon. Maybe I should try to tempt my hubby to go there for the samgyetang, ha ha!!
Hi hi Gosijo, are you OK ?
I hope that the reason you were offline was not because you're not feeling well ?
Thanks for your comment, I will be very happy if I can help you in any way dear Gosijo.
Hi Camille
Planning to go but don't when yet. Sure will be around 2010-2012. I think you should know why all bae sisters around the world will try their best to go in 2010-2012. He he he.
Do u plan to go again in the next three years? Actually korea have a lot of places to be visit. Therefore go there one time is definitely not enough. Do u agreed?
Take care
Jenny
Tout va bien, chère Camille. J'étais simplement loin de l'internet pour quelques jours - petit voyage en voiture.
Et toi, la toux ?
Hi Jenny
Yes I know that a lot of Bae sis plan to go to Korea in 2010-2012 as 2010-2012 is named ‘Year of Korea Tourism’ and will be led by YJ as the Promotional Ambassador.
I hope I can go there again, maybe not 2010 but maybe 2011 or 2012 because there still are a lot of places to visit, especially Jeju island.
And go there even twice is definitely not enough you know, so I hope you can make it again dear Jenny.
Have a nice day
